Ladies’ Ministries
LADIES’ LUNCH:
Each month, from October to May, the ladies meet for fellowship over lunch. We take a break during the summer and holidays.
LADIES’ PRAYER SISTERS:
Ladies who wish to participate are paired up to pray for one another. Since it’s not a secret, the ladies can check with their sister regularly for new requests. This is not a gift-giving ministry, but simply loving each other through prayer.
Children’s Ministries
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL:
Every summer, we plan a four-day VBS. It’s a great opportunity to continue teaching our own children, as well as local children, the truths of God’s Word. It’s fun and educational! We regularly use curriculum from Answers in Genesis.
WISDOM QUEST:
From October to March, the children up through 11 years old meet on Wednesday night during the adult Bible Study to learn wisdom principles from Proverbs in our special class, Wisdom Quest.
A NURSERY IS AVAILABLE for children birth to 2 years of age
Camp
SUMMER CAMP:
We take our juniors and teens to Rapidan Baptist Camp each summer for a week of adventure and challenge in God’s Word.
EVENTS:
We promote all the events at Rapidan Baptist Camp and encourage our people to participate. Some of the events include: Prime Time (55+), Ladies’ Retreats, Men’s Retreats, and Father & Son Retreats.
Details About Our Church
Smith Creek Baptist Church is a fellowship of believers in Jesus Christ, joined together by faith in Him, and who, upon profession of faith, are baptized (immersed) in obedience to His commission. Our purpose is to exalt the Savior, edify and encourage the saints, evangelize the sinner, and encourage each other in love and good works.
We are a fundamental, independent, evangelistic, Baptist church. We want to be conformed to Christ, and do not want to be conformed to this world. We do not participate in ecumenicalism or new evangelicalism.
Our music is traditional and conservative. We sing with piano from the Living Hymns songbook.
We hope you will come to visit and that you will find Smith Creek a home to you. We want to provide a warm, friendly, and nurturing place to grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Meet Our Pastor
Brent Hockema
Brent and Kim Hockema are graduates of Maranatha Baptist University in Watertown, Wisconsin. Brent has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pastoral Theology (1987) and a Master of Divinity (1991) from Maranatha’s Graduate School. Kim has a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education (1988). Brent was ordained by Calvary Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama in 1994.
Brent and Kim placed their faith in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior at a young age and were baptized in obedience to Christ on their profession of faith in Him. They have been faithful in Christian Service since their middle school days, with experience in Vacation Bible School, Bus Ministry, and Children’s Church.
Brent met Kim (Fisher) at college, and they married in 1988. God has blessed them with four children and several grandchildren.
God moved in Brent’s heart when he was a high school student at Calvary Baptist Church and Academy in Normal, Illinois, and he answered God’s call to the ministry. God used these Scriptures to confirm this heart-call: 2Timothy 4:2, “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine” and Colossians 1:28, “Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.”
Pastor Hockema has over 35 years of pastoral experience, serving as an assistant at Waupun Baptist Church in Waupun, Wisconsin, under Pastors Levi Robinson and Tom Boerma; as Youth Pastor at Bensalem Baptist Church in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, under Pastor Bruce Love; as Youth Pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama, under Pastor Greg McLaughlin; and as Pastor at Evangel Baptist Church in Bradenton, Florida. Brent accepted the call to Smith Creek Baptist in 2008.
Kim has a passion for writing and publishing creative content to help families and ministries nurture truth. Her Wisdom Woods series follows Buster Beaver and his friends as they learn wisdom principles through their many adventures. She has several other children’s books, Bible Study Journals, and Seedlet tracks, making it easy to hand out the Gospel.
